A Weekend With The Prince
It was such an honor to host Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil this weekend for a series of fabulous events. This amazing weekend kicked off with a screening of a beautiful documentary, followed by many more festivities. Outside of these events, we were able to share our home and get to know the Prince a bit more. Not only does he bring a great message, but is a great human as well.
Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil is the world's first openly gay royal. Gohil's royal lineage traces back to the sixth century, and his heritage has helped make him a prominent activist for LGBTQ issues.
"It's important for people like me who have a certain reputation in society to continue the advocacy”.
In 2018, Gohil opened his palace ground, Hanumanteshwar, as the first-of-its-kind LGBTQA Community Center. The palace was built by his great-grandfather in the style of Windsor Castle. Prince Manvendra and Executive Producer Mark Von Der Heide brought a powerful film to Bedford Playhouse this Friday, called “Pieces of Us”.
This film is an intimate look at the personal journey of LGBTQ+ hate crime survivors who, by choosing to take their recovery public, inspire the survivor in all of us. The film juxtaposes the inspirational stories of recovery each of the film’s subjects have experienced with the powerful connections their public actions have produced. The film explores the resistance of these unlikely heroes and survivors, who chose to stand against hate and give a voice to the voiceless.
