Rock Garden for 49

The use of rocks as decorative and symbolic elements in gardens can be traced back at least 1,500 years in Chinese and Japanese gardens. In China, large scholar's rocks, preferably soft rocks such as limestone worn in river beds or waterfalls into fantastic shapes, were transported long distances to imperial and elite gardens.

I have decided to make few on my driveway and wet area under the tennis court. The project started out by visiting many local stones and gravel places. It's very important to select the boulder that speaks to you and continue by adding different texture of stones and gravels, creating a natural and organic aesthetic.

As for the plants, I decided to incorporate 2 different kind of Japanese red maples. The most challenging part of this project was moving the large boulders manually. Overall, I am pleased with all we achieved. As for now, we want to take it all in and simply enjoy the energy and beauty from our rock gardens.
